Pleb mining has had a bit of a renaissance in recent years, with lottery mining devices hitting the market. The Avalon Nano, Nerdminer and BitAxe have carved out quite a following among Bitcoin enthusiasts, and these projects are starting to gather momentum.
We’ve already seen a few upgrades to the BitAxe, and soon SolarBit should be available, the solar-powered BitAxe plug-and-play solution.
2024 looks like it’s going to be a hash rate party, and you’re all invited, and for a few hundred bucks every 10 minutes, you stand a chance to win 3.125 Bitcoin; I mean, what’s not to like?
Even if the odds are absolutely never in your favour!
Joining the party is Czech Bitcoin mining company Braiins, known for its mining pool and mining software; the company has mined more than 1.25 million Bitcoin since 2010, so it’s safe to say they know a fair bit when it comes to mining.
Braiins has thrown its hat into the ring and launched a lottery miner, the BMM 100 Mini Miner, which the company presented at BTCPrague in Prague, Braiins’ home city. The BMM is the first mining hardware to be manufactured in Europe and is a new competitor to BitAxe, Nerdminer and others in the solo and home mining market.
What Is the Braiins Mini Miner?
The Braiins Mini Miner is a compact and powerful device designed for both newcomers and seasoned miners looking to optimise their operations. The BMM 100 operates silently, making it an ideal fit for residential use and makes for a pretty upgrade on your BlockClock.
It’s basically a BlockClock that could net you a block reward.
The BMM has a base power consumption of just 40W (overclockable to 55W) and a hash rate of 1 TH/s.
Braiins has taken a lot of care into making the setup Grandma-proof, thanks to its plug-and-play design. With BraiinsOS+ pre-installed, all you have to do is plug in, boot up and hash down.
If you can plug in an ethernet cable and power supply and press the on the switch, you can mine Bitcoin.
Key Features
1. Compact Design:
One of the standout features of the Braiins Mini Miner is its small size. This makes it easy to set up in various environments, whether you have a dedicated mining space or just a small corner of your home. The display measures around 6×4 cm and has a resolution of 320×240 pixels. It can display mining data such as the current hash rate and temperature or Bitcoin prices.
2. Energy Efficiency:
With energy costs being a significant factor in mining profitability, the Braiins Mini Miner is designed to be energy-efficient. It offers a balance of performance and power consumption, helping miners maximise their returns. Additionally, suppose you’re keen on avoiding spending money on energy costs. In that case, you can always hook up your BMM to a solar panel and battery, let the sun do the work for you, and reduce your operating expenses.
3. User-Friendly Interface:
The device comes with a simple setup process and an intuitive interface, making it accessible for those who may be new to cryptocurrency mining. Braiins also provides comprehensive documentation and support to assist users.
4. Reliable Firmware:
The Braiins Mini Miner supports Braiins OS+, a powerful open-source firmware that enhances the performance and stability of the miner. Users can customise their settings to optimise mining efficiency based on their individual needs.
5. Network Compatibility:
This miner is compatible with a variety of mining pools, allowing users to choose the best option for their mining strategy. If you want to go solo and attempt to win a block on your own, go for it; if you want to mine in a pool and feed off some Satoshi scraps, that’s cool, too.
How Does It Work?
The BMM comes housed in an aluminium casing and stands at just under 7 cm high, 13.4 cm wide and 21.4 cm deep. The miner weighs 1.25 kg in total. It has a board with four BM1366 mining chips, which enable a hash rate of 1 Terahash per second with a power consumption of 40 watts.
However, it can be overclocked to 55 watts if you can keep it cool enough.
The BCB 100 control board, on which the in-house BraiinsOS+ software is pre-installed, has a 4 GB internal memory, 2 GB RAM and an Ethernet and SD card interface. Braiins Mini Miner is Stratum 2 ready and relatively quiet at 40 decibels.
- Setup: Users connect the miner to a power source and an internet connection. The initial configuration can be done through a web interface, where users can enter their mining pool details and other settings.
- Mining Process: Once configured, the Braiins Mini Miner starts working to solve hashes. The more hashes it can compute per second, the higher its chances of earning Bitcoin rewards.
- Monitoring: Users can monitor their miner’s performance, temperature, and power consumption through the web interface or dedicated software tools.
Why Choose Braiins Mini Miner?
If you’d like to take a stab at mining as a hobby but don’t want to fork out thousands for an ASIC, the BMM is a fun little alternative to mess around with, and at the price point of $299.00, you’re not exactly breaking the bank here.
For those who are just starting out or looking to add to their existing setup without a huge investment, the Braiins Mini Miner offers an affordable entry point into the world of mining.
The BMM 100 is the device’s first iteration, and Braiins has announced the upcoming release of the BMM 101, an upgraded version of the BMM 100. This new model will feature Wi-Fi support, a larger screen with additional display options, and enhanced cooling for better performance.
Make pleb mining easier
The Braiins Mini Miner adds to the growing variety of options for anyone interested in Bitcoin mining.
Its user-friendly design, energy efficiency, and compatibility with various mining pools make it an excellent choice for beginner miners looking to boot up their operations, come to terms with the process and later graduate to something more serious.
Whether you’re mining as a hobby or a serious business venture, the Braiins Mini Miner is worth considering if you want to do your part in decentralising the production of hash rate.
Happy mining!
