Bitcoin Main Chain

The Final Say

Bitcoin’s main chain is the base blockchain layer where all transactions are processed and finalised. Every 10 minutes, a new block is created which further cements these transactions in place. When transactions occur on other layers built on top of the main chain such as Lightning, these aren’t finalised until they are broadcast on the main chain.

Over time, there have been upgrades to the main chain that bolster its security, privacy and decentralisation, as well as adding features that will help the development of layers and applications that can be built on top of the main chain.

The core focus for developers has been on securing the sound money layer first, which takes time as a decentralised network of contributors requires a consensus to discuss and implement new ideas before the nodes and miners agree to run it. As time goes, we’ll see more cool developments happening up the layers whilst the main chain becomes even more secure.
