Spook
Home » Bitcoin Culture » BTC Glossary » Spook
Like ghosts in the mind, a “spook” is anything that a group of people, society, mainstream media or influencers will lead you to believe is real but it actually isn’t – basically, an illusion.
For example, oftentimes on social media, you will see a concept that will gets repeated on your news feed so often that you may start to believe is real, despite the reality being that it isn’t real.
Influencers, moonboys and even some FUD pieces can be, or create, spooks as they are there to drive attention and engagement by dividing opinion online between things that are real or not.
The phrase was born from Max Stirner, who was a German philosopher in the 19th century but has since been suitably “meme-ified” in the 21st century.
