ASIC

ASIC is what you will come across if you get decide to get involved in Bitcoin mining – the acronym means “Application Specific Integrated Circuit”. In the picture above, you will see a line of ASICs that make up part of a Bitcoin mining operation that help process Bitcoin transactions.

When Bitcoin first started, people could mine it just by using their regular computers GPU (graphics card) but as time went on, this became less efficient. More people started using Bitcoin and so more transactions were being broadcast across the blockchain

ASICs became the must-have mining gear as they were purpose built for Bitcoin mining and could process many more transactions much more efficiently than GPUs could.

Anyone who wants to get in to mining nowadays will likely need to have an ASIC.
