Buy Bitcoin On The Rootstock Network
Home » Buying Bitcoin » Buying Rootstock Bitcoin
Rootstock Smart Bitcoin or R-BTC is a separate token that is different from the main chain Bitcoin and runs on a separate blockchain known as the Rootstock Network. The Rootstock Network issues its native R-BTC based on Bitcoin locked via its 2-way powpeg, which is secured via the proof of work produced by miners who opt to merge mine the sidechain along with the base chain.
The Rootstock side chain offers cheaper and faster transaction times than the base chain, providing additional scalin capacity for the Bitcoin ecosystem.
RBTC is a token issued through the Rootstock EVM-based virtual machine and allows you to use Bitcoin with a host of dApps and smart contracts built on Rootstock or those that have added support for the Rootstock chain. These dApps include DEXs, DEFI protocols, Web3 games and marketplaces.
You can also pay for goods and services with any vendor that accepts R-BTC. If you want to leave the Rootstock ecosystem or pay someone on the main chain, you can peg out via the pow-peg or swap your R-BTC with a user or custodian willing to swap main chain Bitcoin.
Where to buy bitcoin on the Rootstock Network?
To buy Rootsock Bitcoin directly, you have to use an exchange that supports the chain and lists the asset with the ticker (R-BTC).
Remember, if you are going to custody R-BTC, you will need to use a wallet that is specifically designed to support Rootstock Bitcoin or use a Peg out the bridge to send your R-BTC from an exchange into main-chain Bitcoin.
If you’re ready to buy R-BTC, you can source it via one of the following exchanges that support the Rootstock Network.
Note: Certain exchanges will not list R-BTC as an asset, but rather as a method of offsite transfer, so in certain cases, you might purchase bitcoin, but when you opt to withdraw the funds, you can choose the Liquid network and have that amount sent to you in R-BTC.
